The Burgerhuis in Stellenbosch, satellite site of the Rupert Museum, is currently showing a selection
of works from the Abe Bailey bequest to South Africa, which has been housed at the Iziko South African National Gallery since its arrival in South Africa in the 1940s.
To celebrate the loan to the Burgerhuis, I will be presenting an introduction to Sir Abe Bailey the art collector. Curator Andrew Lamprecht will be speaking to the selection of works made for this exhibition.
Anna Tietze is a cultural and art historian with an interest in past and present conceptions of art, academic art history and the art museum.
She has degrees in Philosophy, French and Art History and Theory from the universities of Oxford and Essex. At the University of Cape Town, she has taught in the departments of Cultural History, History of Art, Historical Studies and Michaelis School of Fine Art.
